FLYING WITH AIRLINE PROVIDED OXYGEN
How do I fly on a commercial aircraft with oxygen?
You have two choices to use oxygen during a commercial flight.
One is to find one of the major carriers to provide it for you during flight for a fee. You must contact your carrier prior to booking your flight to determine their policy. Each airline has different policies. The airlines will only provide oxygen during flight. The airlines that do provide oxygen during flight, will NOT provide oxygen at any airports.
Two is to find a carrier to allow you to bring on-board and use a FAA Approved Portable Oxygen Concentrator. Click here to learn more about our POC’s that we rent on a short term basis.
Can I bring my own equipment on-board a commercial aircraft?
Certain equipment is allowed on certain aircraft on certain carriers. Each airline has their own policy concerning bringing your equipment on board, contact them prior to flying or call us to let you know what equipment you have is allowed.
Will the airline that is providing me with oxygen during flight, provide oxygen for me at the airport?
No, the airlines that do provide oxygen will only provide oxygen during flight.
How do I get oxygen at the airport?
One of our many services is providing oxygen at connecting airports. We can have a representative meet you at the gate of your arriving flight with oxygen equipment and escort you to your departing flight. Call us with your flight information and dates of travel to obtain a quote. See below on how to obtain a gate pass for a special needs passenger.
How do I get from my car to the gate of the plane with oxygen, and vise-versa at my destination?
We are happy to have one of our representatives meet you at the curb and escort you to your departing flight. At your destination, we can have someone meet you at the gate of arrival (on-time) with oxygen equipment and escort you to your transportation leaving the airport. Call us at 800.346.3556 with your flight information to obtain a quote.
Another option is to obtain a Gate Pass for a Special Needs Passenger. This can be obtained from the ticket counter of the airline you are flying on. This Gate Pass will allow one person who is not traveling to escort you and the oxygen equipment you brought from home through security and to the gate of the plane. The person on oxygen then boards the plane and proceeds to use the airline provided oxygen. This extra person who is not traveling can then leave the airport with your equipment. Call us at 800.346.3556 for questions on how this works. This gate pass can be obtained at all the airports in the US.
FLYING WITH PORTABLE OXYGEN CONCENTRATOR’S (POC’S)
General POC Questions
What is a POC?
A POC is a term for a Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC). You may be familiar with a full size concentrator that you might use at home. A concentrator is a device that extracts everything out of the air and delivers a medical dose of oxygen. We also call them Medical Air Purifiers.
Can I use a POC during flight?
Yes, many airlines are now allowing the use of these machines during flight. Click here for an updated list of airlines with links to their oxygen policies. Every airline has their own policy, ensure you are aware before traveling.
Can I bring a POC on board a flight and NOT use it?
Yes, all airlines will allow you to bring a POC on-board even though you may not use it. This is important because you may want to use it at connecting airports or to get to and from the airport.
Can I use a POC in a car?
Yes, all of the POC’s that we rent come with adapters to plug into a cigarette outlet in a vehicle. Once pluged in the unit will operate and charge any batteries that need to be charged.
Can I use a POC overseas?
Yes, most of our POC’s are multi-voltage and will work worldwide. We offer the simple, plug-shape changing adapters to plug into international outlets. Contact us for more information about international travel at 800.346.3556.
