Children Flying with Oxygen

Advanced Aeromedical, Inc. 800-346-3556.

It is critical to consult with your Pediatric Physician and get approval for use of any portable oxygen concentrators and related equipment.

We work with children who need therapeutic oxygen while flying. Some are going for medical treatments, some are going on vacation.  There are more kids flying with oxygen today, than ever before. There are important steps to take to make sure the correct equipment is used.

Pulse or On-Demand Delivery systems are designed for Adult use. As a general rule, children and infants can not use a Pulse Delivery Device. Of the Portable Oxygen Concentrators that are FAA Approved, currently only a few offer a continuous flow that a young child can use. The lowest setting on these machines are .5 or 1 LPM.  When a lower flow rate is needed, we have a Precise RX Pediatric Flow Meter made by Invacare that attaches to any oxygen source. This allows for precise low flow rates that an infant or child can use.

Consult with the child’s physician about flying and using therapeutic oxygen. Each airline has there own rules about flying with a portable oxygen concentrator. Each airline has there own specific physician statement for the doctor to sign off and establish a LPM (prescribed oxygen Liters per Minute) for the flight. Additional batteries are required as well.

We are here to assist with rentals and sales of FAA Approved Portable Oxygen Concentrators that children can use. Call us at 800-346-3556 for questions or to set up service.
